Oh no! My crown came off!

My crown came out. Can it be recemmented?

Sometimes. If a patient comes in with a crown that has come out there are a few things that need to be checked. First, the dentist must look at the crown and the tooth to see if there is an underlying problem. If there is decay under the crown or around the margins, it usually is a bad idea to recement the crown since it will not fit properly. If the inside of the crown has black stain it probably indicates that the crown was "leaking" for some time prior to coming off. If the tooth is ok and not decayed, the dentist will remove all the cement inside the crown and on the tooth, check the fit and if it all looks good, recement it on. Sometimes recementing works well, but other times the crown can come off again.
